The Boston Girl by Anita Diamant

The Boston Girl by Anita

4 of 5 stars

An enjoyable story related by an 85 year old grandmother, Addie Baum, who was asked by her granddaughter to reflect on her life.  As an interview pursues, the main character, Addie, relives her coming of age in the North End of Boston recalling the history during that time. Being a native of Boston myself, I found the story relatable with the challenges of growing up in the city. I was intrigued with her description of the city back in a day much different than today. Her family history of her Jewish family's immigration and the traditions and tragedies which caused both conflict and comfort to a disjointed, dysfunctional family.
