I received a digital copy of this book from GoodReads Giveaway and publisher on Kindle in exchange for an unbiased review.

This is the first book in a series revolving around Krista Larson who has become the youngest female Police Chief in Galena, IL at 28 years old. It seems she is following in her father Keith’s footsteps as he recently retired at 58 from his position as Chief Detective at Dubuque PD. Krista has her father move back to the family home in Galena months after her mother passes away. Her parents had moved to Dubuque to be closer to work leaving the family home to their only child, Krista.

The story begins with the brutal crime of Sue Logan, a classmate preparing to travel from Clearwater, FL for her Class of 2009 Galena High School Reunion.

The story alternates with chapters written from view of the killer who happens to be planning the next murder. It seems that everyone is suspect when Astrid Lund, successful investigative reporter, is murdered while in town for the reunion. The girl voted “most likely” in high school seems to have made some enemies on her rise to fame.

Keith Larson contributes to the investigation using his contacts and experience to assist the small town police department in Galena. The story is a rollercoaster journey where identifying the killer is challenging. It is an exciting quick moving story making it a breeze to read. The only annoying parts were references to the Larson’s strong Danish ancestry which didn’t feel revalent to the story.
