Surviving life amongst civil war

This is the story of the struggles and life of a family as told by one of the children. The harrowing effects of life in Iraq and their move to Homs in Syria in hopes of a better life. Unfortunately, civil war erupts in Syria and they move to Damascus and eventually back to Homs. After years of waiting, they are finally granted refugee status to travel to Edmonton, Canada. Adapting to life without bombs and gun fire and learning English proved as difficult as living in a war zone.
"After three years of living in civil war, we had become strangely numb to random violence that bubbled up around us."
