“Yoga is a lifestyle and a way of being.”
This is an informative and well-organized manual for those interested in yoga as a beginner. Yoga has always seemed so overwhelming with all the terms and poses that it’s easy to abandon it before it becomes a habit.
This book does a great job explaining what yoga is including information I had never read before. The explanation of the eight limbs of yoga explained how the steps can result in liberation of one’s soul. The most impressive part is the 50 benefits of yoga which are explained although most of the benefits clearly overlap.
There’s a section describing which props are helpful and why. From there the book explains 4 basic poses which includes modifications as well as the benefits of each pose. It goes on further to incorporate these basic poses into more common sequential poses. Another interesting section related to “mudra” or hand yoga poses. They are common gestures we may see without realizing their significance. The section of breathing is especially important with each of the movements.
I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to incorporate a yoga habit into their lifestyle. It is explained in a manner easy for a beginner such as myself to understand.
