Harriet Langdon is an older woman who has collected thousands of treasures which all seem to hold emotions from their past owners. Her hoarding of these objects results in accumulation of tension which begins to make her neighbors sick. This experience is also shared by Evelyn “Ev” who collects these found objects which seem to “call to her” which she then sells. She makes ends meet by seeking these items at Vancouver’s Chinatown Night Market.

Evelyn "Ev" and Owen, a friend, meet her Harriet Langdon when her collection begins to overflow into the hallways and alley where people are going through her boxes. Evelyn finds a brooch gives off aura of anger which Evelyn knows she can’t sell. She feels it would be dangerous to allow that anger into the world. Ev gets some help from Owen and Noemi, her sister who returns to town. They both grew up in foster homes so didn’t have any real possessions of their own.

Harriet decides to help Ev discover the history of some of these items which seem to exude a mysterious aura. Harriet would like to have her items displayed in a museum where others might experience the healing powers of the past. While doing so it becomes important to weed out the items which seem to hold emotional energy which would not be healing to anyone.

The Memory Collectors speaks to the power of one’s past and our attempts to retain some items for remembrance. The remnants of past may hold just as much negative energy as positive which eludes to how we can delve deeper into our reasons for holding on to the past. We may find that some memories are best left where they belong.
