According to the author, the book was written with the intention for readers to have the inability to distinguish the story within the story. He references Agatha Christie, but admittedly, I have not read many of her works to comment on any comparison.
It just wasn’t for me. I found it confusing and disjointed trying to keep track of the characters and their “secret,” which took me a while to figure out, that each character had something to hide. It didn’t come together for me until the end; by then, I was just hoping for an ending to resolve my confusion.
The ending did just that, except I didn’t enjoy the journey to get there.
